People don’t hire resumes. People hire people.

As a human resources professional, coach and trainer, Rob feels incredibly fortunate to have worked with organizations of all sizes and influence—from Seattle’s most successful tech giants to exciting and inspiring startups. For Rob, it’s the reward of connecting with and positively impacting the lives of his clients that matters most.

He knows that people don’t hire resumes; they hire people.

The launch of RSU Consulting in 2012 is the natural evolution of all Rob’s done professionally and personally for nearly 20 years. And he’s collected fans along the way; individuals who have experienced his inspiring and results-oriented approach to helping them shape and tell their personal and professional story with conviction and optimism.

Experienced and able to walk in your shoes

Rob’s knack for making a profound impact in the lives of professionals in the midst of career transitions is a consistent theme. He’s especially adept at helping make the process of a job or career change less daunting. It helps that he’s been there himself as a job seeker, and on the other side of the table as a recruiter, hiring manager and HR business partner. And because Rob has helped dozens of managers build effective teams, he understands what managers are looking for in a candidate and generously shares these insights and strategies with his clients.

Covering nearly 20 years, Rob’s professional experience includes nine years at Microsoft, and senior HR positions at EnCompass Globalization, WRQ, Intellectual Ventures, and T-Mobile, to name a few. Rob has also held roles at International Language Engineering (now Lionbridge Technologies), as a technical translation recruiter and, for more than five years, as a teacher, trainer and operations manager in Japan.

In every professional role, it’s Rob’s knowledge, warmth, approachability, and deep sense of integrity and trustworthiness that is called out most frequently. These relational attributes enable him to have highly productive engagements at all levels of an organization and for every level of professional—from C-suite executives to front-line employees.

Balance and the big picture

Life is not all work. Rob may coach you into that next big career move, but along the way, you can also count on him to be the one with the calm, encouraging demeanor, always keeping perspective on what’s most important to you.

A creative approach

This natural inclination toward balance and perspective even shows itself in Rob’s choice of hobbies and personal pursuits. For example, take a look at the images throughout this website – all courtesy of Rob and his camera. He calls himself a photography enthusiast—and you’ll see that he’s definitely that, and creatively much more, in the way he captures the smallest detail, but knows when to take a step back for the big picture. This “eye” for the story, even within a single image, displays the same skillful approach Rob takes in helping coach and capture the stories of his clients.

Tools of his trade

Rob also exercises his love of presenting and speaking through his volunteer and “voice” work. For more than eight years, Rob has donated weekend time to the Seattle Aquarium as an aquarium exhibit interpreter to small and large crowds. He uses that same vocal storytelling skill in his professional voiceover work, and you’ll often find him in a recording studio producing voiceover projects for companies and campaigns. So whether the tool is a camera, a microphone, or a conversation with you, the end result is the capturing and presentation of something unique, genuine and memorable.

Family first

Finally, and most importantly, it’s Rob’s two kids who provide him the richest sense of balance, life-perspective and gratitude. Like their father, they share Rob’s love of adventure, food, and capturing lots of it digitally—as budding photographers themselves.
